The First Year Goes Faster Than You Think
If you are expecting a baby or holding your newborn right now, you have probably already heard it. It goes so fast. And somehow, even with that knowledge, this period of time still moves quicker than anyone expects. One moment you are anticipating their arrival, and the next you are chasing a curious toddler who is finding their footing.
That is exactly why I created my Watch Me Grow photo sessions. This series is designed to thoughtfully document your baby’s first year, not as a collection of disconnected sessions, but as one complete story.
What Is a Watch Me Grow Photo Session?
A Watch Me Grow series is a curated baby milestone photography experience that follows your family through your baby’s first year. Each session is calm, baby-led, and built around realistic expectations. There is no pressure for perfection. Everything is planned in advance, which removes stress and decision fatigue during a season when you already have enough on your plate.
Each session builds on the last, creating a cohesive body of work that reflects your family naturally. While the structure is thoughtfully planned, there is always room for flexibility and personalization so each family’s experience feels true to them.
I provide guidance throughout the year on timing, what to wear, and how to prepare your home in a simple, minimal way. Because we work together consistently, trust builds naturally. By the later sessions, families often tell me it feels easy, familiar, and comfortable.
The Sessions Included in a Watch Me Grow Series

Optional Maternity Session: The Beginning of the Story
The maternity session marks the very beginning of your baby’s story. It is a time filled with anticipation, connection, and quiet excitement. These sessions can include your partner and older siblings and often feel reflective and emotional in the best way. This session sets the tone for the year ahead and beautifully documents the starting point.

Newborn Session: Ideally 5 to 10 Days Old
As a newborn photographer in Charlottesville, I recommend photographing babies within the first 5 to 10 days whenever possible. During this window, babies are typically sleepier and more comfortable being gently posed.
Newborn sessions are photographed in your home, which allows your family to stay comfortable and relaxed. These sessions are a blend of lifestyle photos that emphasize natural moments that highlight the connection you have with your newborn, as well as some softly posed newborn portraits. I focus on natural interactions, tiny details, and the quiet moments that define those early days. Everything moves at a calm, parent-led pace, with time built in for feeding, soothing, and breaks.

4-Month Milestone Session: Personality Emerges
At around four months, babies begin holding their heads up and engaging more with the world around them. This stage brings the first true smiles, expressive eye contact, and an emerging personality that feels brand new and familiar all at once.
These sessions focus on connection and expression. They are simple, joyful, and centered on who your baby is becoming.

8-Month Milestone Session: The Sitter Stage
The eight-month stage is one of my favorites. Babies are often sitting independently, curious, and full of big expressions. There is so much interaction and joy during this phase, and it photographs beautifully.
This session captures movement, curiosity, and that in-between stage when your baby is no longer a newborn but not quite a toddler. It is one of the most expressive milestones of the first year.

1-Year Session: Celebrating a Big Milestone
The one-year session celebrates an incredible milestone. Whether your baby is standing, taking first steps, or still finding their balance, this session honors the first year in a way that feels meaningful and unforced.
Family portraits are always included, and any celebration elements are kept simple and timeless. The focus stays on connection, growth, and the joy of reaching this moment together.
Telling the Full Story: The Heirloom Album
At the heart of every Watch Me Grow series is the heirloom baby album. This album tells the full story of your baby’s first year, from pregnancy or newborn days through the first birthday.
Designed with intention, the album becomes both a keepsake for you now and a meaningful heirloom for your child later in life. Seeing the growth, change, and connection unfold page by page is incredibly powerful. It transforms individual moments into a lasting family story.
Baby Portraits for Your Home
As an alternate, or additive, option to the album, I also help families create baby portraits for their home that are meant to be enjoyed every day. Thoughtfully designed wall art and framed prints allow these memories to live beyond your phone or hard drive.
Because the sessions are cohesive, the artwork across milestones works beautifully together. The result is timeless artwork that grows with your home and your family.
Why Families Choose a Watch Me Grow Series
Families choose Watch Me Grow because it offers consistency, trust, and long-term value. I get the ability to truly get to know your family over the course of the year. This allowed the experience, along with the imagery to feel cohesive. The experience becomes familiar and feels supportive throughout.
Instead of one-off sessions, you receive a complete record of your baby’s first year that reflects not just milestones, but connection, growth, and family life as it unfolds.
A Gift for Now and for the Future
The first year is fleeting. Watch Me Grow photo sessions are an investment in memory, family history, and cherishing those first months as your family grows. They are a way to honor this season while you are living it and preserve it for years to come.
I recommend booking during pregnancy or early newborn planning, as availability is intentionally limited to ensure each family receives a thoughtful, unhurried experience. If you are looking for maternity and newborn photography or first year baby photos that tell a complete story, I would be honored to work with your family.
